The thought process being the classic drinks deserve a simple, clean but still stylized photo. These two drinks specifically are clean, simple, and strong, so the photos are meant to emphasize those characteristics.
In a similar vein, with a few additional creative choices can significantly impact the final result. Adding in a mirror, a different background, and striving for a more stylistic final image can take a shoot in a very different direction.
In this case, a dreamy , alluring, almost tempting image is the result.
The key is knowing what you want to achieve in advance and working backwards to know where to begin
